A Year in Review

.: It was almost a year ago that I started this blog. "The Start of a New Day" had a basic concept behind it, I had nothing to lose and I was going to make the best of every day, live without regrets of the past and strive to become a better person. In a year what have I accomplished in furtherance of these aims? I'm not sure.

.: I have defiantly changed. I had lofty philosophic goals when I started.. I knew what I wanted to do and by gosh I was gonna do it.. Nothing to lose right? So where am I now... Well.. I went back on a lot of my goals... I'm not a full time artist, thought I was for 7 months... I didn't do anything to save the world, but I did join a non profit organization that helps people in developing countries so maybe half a point... A minor note, I switched from tea to coffee... but that only lasted a couple months (back to tea now with a vengeance)....

.: Much to my dismay, I have lost my sense of definite purpose in life. For the longest time, I had a solid concept of what I would be doing post-college.. Where I would be, who I would be with, and what I would be doing... now I have no idea on any of those things... I thought about moving to Costa Rica.. I thought about buying a condo/loft... I thought about trying to get back together with some peeps.. I thought about never seeing anyone ever again.. I thought about joining the military or becoming a truck driver (which didn't last very long when I realized that I can't back up a trailer to save my soul...).. I thought I had a plan.. but that plan has faded now.. not gone.. but faded for sure...

.: However, I did manage to accomplish many things in a year... I did end up moving to the west coast... I'm working on moving the Seattle right now, which will mean that I've lived in every west coast state... I did work as a designer for 7 months or so... I did move outside of my comfort zone... I'm alive, I have my health, and I have many many many wonderful memories (with pictures to prove)... I got back into hiking and biking..

.: What else has happened in a year.. I've seen many friends get married (or at least engaged)... Reconnected with a couple old friends... Learned a TON about my extended family.. Learned (or maybe just became more aware of) taxes and how much they ACTUALLY SUCK!!!!! Side note to Mr Briggs: Go more in-depth with personal taxes...

.: Other fun things that happened to me this year.. I got hit by two cars on my bike.. The workers at Midus laughed at my car about how much rust there was on my brakes... Went to Vegas (didn't win anything)... Went white water rafting.. surprised my brother at field camp (which was sweet).. Learned that Chicago sucks... The list could go on for a long time...

.: In closing.. This year has been a crazy year... I look forward to a bit more laid back year in '08... it would be nice... Hope everyone has had a great year too...

UPDATE: My sister made the point that Chicago doesn't suck.. And it really doesn't.. Chicago as a city is a wonderful place, one that I've enjoyed going to many times.. The comment I made was in reference to Chicago's Traffic during rush hour and Slow'Hare, So if you LOVE looking at airport lounges, then please "Come fly the Delayed Skys" via United and O'Hare...

Where the heck have I been

.: I'd say sorry about not posting lately, but I haven't slept lately... and sleeping comes before blogging... So for those who don't talk to me on a weekly basis (thanks for the calls).. Here is 60 seconds with Dan....

.: November.. Clock was running on getting my WOCCU project off the ground and live... I applied to work full time for them as a remote web software developer and designer.. I have sense excepted and signed my name to the one thousand spots they require it.. The website launched this past Monday in a quiet launch.. We're waiting on bugs to get worked out to yell about it.. but if you would like to see what has absorbed every waking moment of my life for the past three months... check out www.woccu.org .... cuz hurray.. itz up.....

.: I have been researching and searching and questioning my future moving plans to Seattle... I still have no idea about where I'll live in a couple weeks... Which bugs me.. but I'll figure it out soon I hope... I need to move to the city... or at least closer to an airport... I went apartment shopping a couple times over the past months... Saw a lot of really nice things.. saw some really expensive things... and saw a lot of lame places too... so I need to find a mix of all of those...

.: I got engaged to a really nice lady... I'm super excited about it.. We meet at a granola hippy tree hugger veggie eating save the world ride a bike conference in Portland about a month back.. Rie is a wonderful lady and I am lucky to find her... .............. Well if you talked to me in the past anytime by now you know I'm just totally bs'ing you.. but I thought it would be fun to put that in there..

.: My Bro graduated college.. I'm pumped for him.. he's off to mine Copper in AZ... My family got together to wish him well and celebrate christmas early... Great to see them again...

.: Did some trail blazing in the woods around Tillamook... So that has been fun.. some nice little day hikes... Glad I decided to not go out on a two day hike the other week... as a class 2 or 3 storm hit the bay... winds of 50mph with gusts of 120+mph.... tons of rain... flooding.. just chaos... It was something to behold... knocked out power and communications between the bay and the rest of the world... Glad I could see it.. Glad I wasn't out in it..

.: Other than that.. Really work has consumed my life right now... I have about a million deadlines.. but hey.. I'm happy and as long as I got my tea collection going strong, I'm doing ok.. :)
